"Immersive Learning: Creating "an" experience"

                                                  "Ted Talks"

Wow! The Ted Talk seemed like a real game changer for fostering an immersive learning experience for students. The pedagogy format used places the student right at the heart and center of learning when trying to reach given objectives. The Ted Talk provided me with a clearer perspective on experimental learning and how it can help aid the learning experience. This style of experimental learning has to be hands down one of the most engaging ways to hook students and have the buy in we need from them while teaching. Now using virtual reality sounds both exciting and scary. I say this because the presenter talked about the wonderful experience he had while also mentioning what I see as one potential hiccup in moving this form of pedagogical methods forward. Teachers! We need teachers to back this use of technology. While I think the younger generation and recently graduated teachers will get on board I see older teachers being turned off to this method. I think for it to be successful all teachers need to be properly informed on the who, what, why, where, and how. Teachers will also need to have continuous support as they learn how to use new technology practices.

                 "Immersive Learning: Creating "an" experience."

Dewy explored how what ways emerging technology can create "an" educative experience with fostering an environment that allows students a hands-on experience verse just watching it in some format. By using virtual reality or technology that allows students to practice as they learn is "an" experience that will leave a lasting impression on students. With technology looking vastly different compared to what when I was in school it is concerning to see several classrooms being taught in a traditional format. The traditional style of learning is not completely useless as some students like and need that format. Soley used traditional formats such as lecturing, reading from a textbook, or watching a video is what we call "ordinary experiences" compared to "an" experience that is hands on. But if we are going to hold our students attention we must provide pedagogical pathways that integrate technology. We as teachers are to help our students in the most effective ways possible. When we choose to pass on intangible "experiences" mentioned in the Ted Talk I believe we are doing a disservice to our classroom. Dewy paints a clear picture that students must have that excitement of what happens if I do this or if I decide that. Based on students decisions they have instant answers to a perspective they never had prior.
