1. What are the emerging trends in educational technology?
Artificial intelligence has come a long way since the initial launch of Apple's Siri. Now Apple has made it possible to ask Siri more complex questions with answers that are more accurate. Google has also launched a new intelligent assistant that can help save you the time by asking it questions.
2. How do they reshape the culture of learning and teaching?
Teachers need to present opportunities around problem-based learning, immersion, and simulation. Problem-based learning is where students learn about the subject of an open-ended problem. They are often challenged to identify solutions to real life problems. Immersion is real-time decision making over longer periods of time. So if the student makes a decision that is not the optimal decision then they have to rethink the answer. Simulation is important because it happens in a safe environment where students are free to experiment with trial and error.
3. What is the role of teachers in an era of digital learning?
We as teachers need to make digital learning a process that allows students to find solutions through several processes of technology simulation. Our job should be to help facilitate the process and explain missed opportunities overlooked by students. By creating interactive learning experiences through digital technologies students have the ability to connect their solutions whether they are successful or not.
I agree with you that teachers need to be facilitating the process of digital learning. I think that digital learning is a process for both teachers and students and while teachers may find missing opportunities, students may just as well find missed opportunities that educators may have missed. But that is the beauty of technology, it's always changing so there is always something to learn.
ReplyDeleteCreating an interactive learning environment is a great point, and something that I think as educators we need to keep in mind! Technology is ever changing and creating new opportunities for both us and our students, making sure we facilitate that learning process is key.
